Our world could use kind expressions of courtesy, don’t you think? But where and when are we taught such acts? I’d submit to you, they are learned mostly at a very young age, but all throughout our lives. I’d like to suggest a few acts of courtesy that make for better relationships and for raising kids.
KEEP YOUR WORD—An old expression was, “A man’s word is his bond.” Jesus taught to “Let your yes be yes and your no, no, and anything beyond that is evil.” Mt. 5:37. Be a dependable person and keep your promises. Be careful not to make empty promises.
BE ON TIME—this is perhaps another way of keeping your promises. There are some whom you could set your watch; they are consistently late for work, church services, meetings, etc., by 10, 15, 20 minutes. If “one” can be consistent in their pattern of “lateness”, they show they are capable of a habit of being on time. Perhaps they ought to change their clocks?
DO IT RIGHT—I have always appreciated Mike Rampey’s commercials for Air Assurance. Especially the one where his father taught him to set fence posts right in the first place. What if we would take our tasks “as unto the Lord?” Eph. 6:7. The greatest employees ought to be believers in Christ, because they serve “as unto the Lord.”
BE PLEASANT—Have you ever known of people who seem like they’ve been weaned on a sour pickle? All of us can have bad days, but for the most part believers ought to have the greatest outlook on life and on others. “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say Rejoice.” Phil. 4:4
SAY “THANK YOU”—Why was it that only one of the 10 lepers expressed gratitude to Jesus after they were healed? Lk. 17:17. Be that ONE!
