Two Ways To Go

Jesus taught to “enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13, 14.
Surely, no one would choose to drive down a road that led them to their death! But, spiritually speaking, many people follow the crowd. Jesus cautions his followers to be sure to enter through the narrow gate and stay on the narrow road. It’s the only road that leads to life!
The way of the crowd is described as a broad way. It’s the carnal way or fleshly way that lives only to please himself. There is plenty of room to pull up a chair and enjoy the pleasures of the world. It’s like pulling up to the bar and drinking yourself into a stupor. Or like, shooting drugs into your veins and drifting off into neverland, never to return. They’ll be lots of company on the way that support your indulgent habits and you’ll have a lot in common with everyone around you. But it still leads to destruction. The wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). Jesus states it plainly.
Many love the broad way, some know the way is wrong, but enjoy the road too much, while a few choose to take a different road, a narrow road with few fellow pedestrians. Are you following the crowd or are you following Jesus?
